individualism for the masses

BK Marcus is an amateur political economist with no formal education in the subject.

He works from Charlottesville, Virginia, as an editorial consultant for the Ludwig von Mises Institute.

He is no longer a house husband, nor a faculty spouse, but he is still a dilettante and a layabout, at least in spirit.

"It is no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline and one that most people consider to be a 'dismal science.' But it is totally irresponsible to have a loud and vociferous opinion on economic subjects while remaining in this state of ignorance."

Lockean lunch

October 24th, 2008 by bkmarcus

My 2yo son Benjamin announced that he was done with his grilled-cheese sandwich.

I said, "Then your father will eat it."

His mother leaned over and cut a small piece of the sandwich off and popped it into her mouth.

I said, "Hey! I homesteaded that abandoned property!"

She replied, "Oh? Did you mix your labor with it by cutting a piece, the way I did?"

LOL... must be nice to have a spouse conversant in such topics. Anytime I talk to my wife about that stuff, it's prefaced by a 15 minute lecture, and at some point we start arguing.

Great anecdote, made all the better by that delicious looking image of a sandwich.

I assume that you accept the Lockean-Rothbardian theory of property rights, but your wife's claim seems to be further bolstered by the fact that you gave your son the name of Benjamin Tucker–an opponent of absentee landlordism who asserted that there are "no [legitimate property] titles except such as are based upon actual occupancy and use"

Naming a newborn is a negotiation, not a straightforward endorsement of a specific property theory. Neither of us wanted to call him Ludwig or Murray; and my wife vetoed Lysander.
